Questions to Answer when Creating a Brand
If you’ve heard me say anything about branding in the time we have known each other, I hope it is that branding is so much more than just a logo and some colors! Your brand comes across in all that you do as a business, everything from customer interactions to the Canva templates you choose. Sometimes it can be difficult to hone in on this brand language, which is why there are several steps in the brand process that happen long before final deliverables are created.

The brand brief is a series of questions that walks through the many things that make your brand unique. Although we go through many different aspects of your brand, here are a few things I think are EXTREMELY important to answer while working on new brand or a rebrand…

Seasonal Living: Summer
Our seasons are marked by CHANGE.
Change of weather yes. But also change in the foods we eat and how we spend our time. Change in how much sleep we need and how often we go outside. Change in the clothes we wear and the energy we have. Even changes in the music we listen to and the shows we watch.
Change in the fruits in season and the number of baked goods we consume. Change in the temperature of our coffee and our thermostats. Change in how often it rains and whether we grow our plants inside or outside.
It’s a constant cycle of change… so why should our work and businesses look the SAME in those seasons?
Why Branding is Important to the Success of a Business
Now that we all have screens in our hands and so much visual access to the world, branding can be a crucial component of a business’s success. Effective branding goes beyond a memorable logo or a catchy tagline. It encompasses the entire experience a company offers to its customers, from visual identity and messaging to customer service and overall reputation. Here's why branding is essential for the success of a business.
Things to outsource for your small business
There are often polarizing opinions on what to outsource when you are running a small business, but so much of it truly depends on what works for YOU and your situation. As always, it’s best to play to your strengths, and ask for help in your weaknesses. Outsourcing can free up time and space for you to do even more of what you love and are good at, but it also requires resources, and it’s ok to go at your own pace! Building a business and a brand is a labor of love, and it takes time to find trusted partners in that process!
The Importance of Community in Business
It seems like in the world of small business and entrepreneurship it can be SO easy to become isolated. When your head is down and you are wearing all of the hats, it’s easy to forget what it was like to have a team of coworkers or employees to collaborate with, bounce ideas off of, or even just vent to.
Here are some reasons why community is SO important in business, and a few ideas on where you can cultivate it!
Tools of the Trade
As a graphic designer of COURSE I love working in the digital space. Computers offer a way to really quickly explore a lot of ideas and perfect a concept well. BUT, bringing the analog into a digital process makes the end result so much warmer, more personal and REAL.
Print vs Digital
Ever found yourself puzzled over the disparity between print and digital design files? Wondering why print files are measured in inches while digital files are sized in pixels? Or scratching your head over why there are three different codes for every single color? Let's shed some light on the key differences between print and digital images, documents & files.
Creativity: A business owner’s biggest asset
On the rollercoaster that is entrepreneurship, where adaptability and innovation are key, creativity is one of your greatest assets. A business owner's ability to think outside the box, envision possibilities, and cultivate inventive solutions can make all the difference in navigating challenges and approaching new opportunities. Creativity absolutely drives growth, builds business and develops equitable relationships. Let’s talk about it…

There are a few key things that give a logo longevity:
🌱 Simplicity
🔍 Clarity

Documenting (& Sharing) Your Creative Process
1. Start with a Journal or Sketchbook: Begin with a dedicated journal, whether physical or digital, and keep all of your notes and sketches in one place.
2. Capture the Spark: Document your ideas! Keep ongoing lists of project, content or medium ideas. You never know how they will evolve or become useful in the future.
3. Outline Your Vision: Break down your project into phases, outlining key concepts and themes, as well as potential deadlines or milestones.
Diaries of a Working Mom
When you run a business, are successful in your career or have a job you are passionate about you are probably used to being a high achiever. And once you are used to performing at a high level it can be HARD to let yourself take a step back. It’s especially hard if you are taking a step back because taking care of a small human takes a lot of time and energy that used to be devoted to your work, and can feel like a lot of unseen or unnoticed labor. You can start to think that the people around you might just think you are lazy or incompetent at your job.
How I Healed my Anxiety by Journaling
Now, I know what you might be thinking. Journaling immediately brings up thoughts of writing down your feelings, prayers, emotions and wonderings on paper to process heavy or private things. This is not really what I personally mean when I talk about journaling.
Every night the last thing I do before bed is sit down with my journal and write down everything I can expect for the following day. And that’s it. That is the primary purpose of my journal.
